Celebrating Black History Month in Hockey

The Collingwood Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) is proud to celebrate Black History Month, recognizing the incredible contributions of Black athletes, leaders, and trailblazers who have helped shape the game of hockey in our area.

By honouring these achievements, we continue to build a hockey culture rooted in respect, inclusion, and belonging.


🏒 2026/27 All Coach Applications (Rep AA/A/B) – Now Open!

CMHA is now accepting Coach Applications for the 2026–27 season.

We are seeking passionate coaches who are committed to:

  • Strong player development

  • Competitive excellence at every level

  • Creating positive, respectful team environments

🧠 Volunteer Support Roles – Now Recruiting

CMHA is also seeking volunteers for the following association-wide leadership roles:

  • Lead Coach
    Oversees and provides support to all Head Coaches within CMHA

  • Lead Trainer (preferably with a healthcare background)
    Oversees and provides support to all Trainers within CMHA

🔹 Lead Manager – We are happy to announce Jenn McCarl has stepped up to fill this role. (provide support to managers)

These roles help ensure communication, consistency, and development across the association.

Feedback from players and families plays an important role in supporting coach growth, recognizing strengths, and ensuring a positive experience across all CMHA teams.


🏒 Spring Tryouts & Evaluations – Save the Dates

Planning ahead? Here’s what’s coming up this spring:

📅 The Rep Tryout Window:
April 25 – May 11, 2026 (AA / A / B) 
*All Divisions will be determined and announced soon

ℹ️ Note: U9 MD tryouts will be held in the fall.

Please continue to check the CMHA website and communications for division-specific schedules and updates.

(reminder Friday May 8th at the GNE is the end of season celebration of 25/26 for ALL teams) 


👕 Looking Ahead to Next Season – Player Jerseys (Rep Teams Only)

Beginning next season, CMHA will be transitioning away from the current jersey program for representative teams.
All REP players will be required to purchase their own jerseys.

Why this is a win for players:

  • Consistent, high-quality jerseys

  • A more sustainable program moving forward

More details on ordering, sizing, and timelines will be shared well in advance.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Volunteers, Bench Staff & Off-Ice Support – Start Now!

If you plan to be a volunteer, bench staff member, trainer, safety person, or off-ice support, please begin this process now.

🔐 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

The VSC portal opens April 1, but historically there is a backlog. Completing this early helps ensure a smooth start to the 2026/27 season.

A valid VSC is required for:

  • All volunteers

  • Bench staff

  • Evaluators

  • Third-party service providers (fitness instructors, gyms, training facilities)

  • Anyone working directly with kids 


🛡️ Player Safety Tip – Taking a Hit Safely

At appropriate age levels, learning how to safely receive contact is part of player development.

Key reminders:

  • Keep your head up

  • Stay balanced with knees bent

  • Avoid turning your back near the boards

  • Use positioning and awareness to protect yourself

  • Smart, safe play is strong play

Safety always comes first.


🤝 Player & Parent Code of Conduct

CMHA is committed to providing a hockey environment where all individuals are treated with courtesy, fairness, and respect.

All members—players, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and staff—are expected to:

  • Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with CMHA and OMHA values

  • Refrain from abusive, disrespectful, racist, sexist, or harassing behaviour

  • Respect the rules, officials, and safety of others

  • Avoid conduct that brings CMHA, OMHA, or the sport of hockey into disrepute

Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action in accordance with OMHA policies.
