⚙️ Player Development Enhancements
We’re excited to introduce several new initiatives this season to further support our players’ development:

NEW: Goalie Development Plan
This comprehensive program is designed to enhance goaltending skills through specialized instruction and targeted support.

Partnership with The Hockey Mill Collingwood (Opening late Summer)
We are excited to partner with The Hockey Mill Collingwood!

The Hockey Mill is a state-of-the-art, hockey specific development centre featuring elite synthetic ice skating treadmills,  shooting lanes, a goalie training zone, stick handling stations and a hockey-oriented gym.

This program will offer sessions broken into development zones with trained coaches:

·        Treadmill real- time video and data feedback focusing on stride efficiency, edge control, balance and acceleration.

·        Customized synthetic ice small area and shooting lane drills based on individual age, gender and development needs

  • Pro Circuit training program focusing on agility, mobility, strength and injury prevention.

🏛️ Ice Time & Facility Advocacy
Ice availability continues to be a major concern as raised by many members in our community and at our AGM. We encourage all members to kindly write to Town Council in support of the proposed Multi-Use Recreation Facility, which would add multiple new ice surfaces and better meet the needs of our growing hockey community and other user groups or rinks.

📚 Governance Updates

  • The auditor for the fiscal year has been officially ratified.
  • A full bylaw review is in progress to ensure alignment with best practices and evolving organizational needs.

🔐 Volunteer Requirements – Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
All parent volunteers are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check. Please begin the process now to ensure eligibility for participation in the upcoming season.

💡 What to Expect with Rep Hockey: Financial & Time Commitments
Earning a place on a rep team is a significant accomplishment, but families should also be aware of the associated time and financial responsibilities. Expenses may include:

  • Team fees (league registration, tournament entry, officials)
  • Travel (accommodation, fuel, meals)
  • Equipment (often over $1,000 per season)
  • Private training sessions
  • Apparel, photos, and team events

🚗 Travel Tips
Plan ahead for weekend tournaments and road games. Booking hotels early, carpooling, and sharing accommodations can help reduce costs. Many teams also hold fundraising activities — bottle drives, 50/50 raffles, local sponsorships, etc — to help offset expenses. Your involvement can make a big difference!

⏱️ Time Management
Rep hockey involves multiple practices, games, off-ice sessions, and team events each week. A shared calendar and thoughtful scheduling can help maintain balance and prevent burnout.

💬 Emotional Support & Perspective
Rep hockey is competitive and can be intense. It’s essential to support your child emotionally, encourage open dialogue, and keep the focus on fun, growth, and teamwork. While most players won’t go professional, they can all gain confidence, friendships, and a lasting love for the game.

📣 Ask a Seasoned Parent
Experienced rep families are a great resource for tips on budgeting, time management, and navigating the season. Don’t hesitate to connect with them.

🤝 Financial Assistance Available
Families needing financial support are encouraged to explore the following resources:

  • Jumpstart – Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities
  • KidSport Ontario
  • Lace 'Em Up Foundation for Kids
  • The Collingwood Optimist Club

These organizations provide funding support to help offset the costs of minor hockey in Ontario.
