Hi CMHA,
Pursuant to our recent Information session and developments as released by OHF and OMHA, this is an update on a number of considerations moving into Spring Evaluations.
Reminder about CMHA mission statement, see here... https://collingwoodhockey.com/Pages/1002/Mission_and_Vision/
While not part of the mission statement, the CMHA continues to focus on the following:
a) best level of player development
b) healthy competition and chance for success
c) commitment to local association
d) best coaching for player/family experience
Recent Developments:
1. CMHA's application to host spring tryouts during the "AA" timeline was NOT approved at the OMHA level. What does this mean? As we remain a base category "A" centre, we will host the same tryouts as always during the "A" week starting May 3rd. As per the Info Session, our goal remains the same, to elevate our rep programs to the highest level, while not ignoring our focus above. The CMHA will assess and evaluate each program based on tryout success and hope to designate our teams "AA" as appropriate.
2. NRP's - Non Resident Players - With "open player movement / no borders", this means each centre can decide on how many out of town residents are on the roster. CMHA's position at this time is that approximately 1/3 of the roster May be composed of NRP's. This is subject to board discretion based on a number of factors assessed during tryouts.
3. OMHA has just announced that there is open player movement at the U8 U9 MD levels and they have yet to determine player evaluations (tryout) timing, beit spring or fall. There is no firm decision on half ice / full ice however the exact date of transition from half to full may be adjusted. More information to be provided as it is released.
4. The OHF moratorium means that no centre can add an unreasonable number of teams based on prior years registration and growth. CMHA will strive to offer "B" programming as 2nd entry however we are guided by OMHA's approval process. We will know more as registration and programming develops over the next few months.
Best, Dave Epp, President
