TO THE PARENTS WHO ARE SO DEDICATED TO THEIR CHILDREN'S HOCKEY DREAMS,

A friend once asked me, “Why spend so much money and time on your child to train for hockey, or any sport for that matter?”
Here’s my answer…
I have a confession to make—I don’t pay for my child to play hockey. Do you know what I’m really paying for?
I pay for my child to learn discipline on and off the ice.
I pay for my child to understand the importance of taking care of both body and mind. I pay for my child to learn the value of teamwork and being a supportive teammate.
I pay for my child to experience what it feels like to face disappointment—when a pass doesn’t connect, or the puck hits the post—and know that he needs to work harder to get better.
I pay for my child to learn how to set goals and push through challenges to achieve them.
I pay for my child to understand that championships are earned through hours of practice, sweat, and persistence, not handed out on a silver platter.
I pay for the opportunity my child has to form lifelong friendships with teammates who will become like family.
I pay for my child to be on the ice, training and playing, instead of sitting in front of a screen.
I pay for the moments when my child is so exhausted after practice that they can barely stand—because it means they gave it their all and didn’t waste a second.
I pay for the lessons that hockey teaches: responsibility, humility, dedication, camaraderie, resilience, and so much more.
I could go on, but to keep it simple…
I don’t pay for hockey itself. I pay for the skills, the values, and the life lessons this sport gives my child. The lessons that will help them growing into a stronger, more capable person both on and off the ice.
For everything I’ve seen and experienced so far,
I believe it’s my best investment.
