Letter of Support to Collingwood for Provincial Grant re Outdoor Rink
Hi CMHA,

Please note that CMHA recently has written a letter of support (as crafted by the Board) for Town of Collingwood application through the Community Sports & Recreation Infrastructure Fund.  Please see attached letter.  This initiative is critical in maintaining any ice time for CMHA for the future.

Best, Dave Epp

Mayor Yvonne Hamlin
Town of Collingwood,

97 Hurontario Street, P.O. Box 157

Collingwood, Ontario L9Y 3Z5

Dear Mayor Hamlin and Members of Council,

I am writing on behalf of the Collingwood Minor Hockey Association to express our strong support for the initiative to install a roof over the outdoor rink in Collingwood. This project is essential for enhancing our community’s recreational facilities and will greatly benefit the families we serve.

With close to 500 kids in our association, we are always seeking ways to provide more opportunities for our young athletes. Currently, we face significant challenges due to limited ice time and aging facilities. A roofed outdoor rink would dramatically increase our available ice time, allowing our players to practice more frequently and learn to play competitively.

It is also important to note that Collingwood did not receive any funding from the recent $200-million allocation through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, announced by Premier Doug Ford. This highlights the urgency of improving our local recreational infrastructure, as we are currently at a disadvantage compared to other communities.

The addition of a roof would create a sheltered environment, promoting access to the rink. This would encourage more physical activity among our youth, fostering health and exercise while providing a safe space for families to come together. Increased access to ice would also enable us to host more events in the town, training sessions, and tournaments, all of which are crucial for developing our further enriching the sporting culture in Collingwood.

Investing in this project will address our current limitations in ice availability and help bring us in line with more modern recreational facilities in other communities. It represents a significant opportunity for Collingwood to enhance the sporting culture and overall quality of life for its residents. We urge the Town Council to prioritize the roof project for the outdoor rink. This initiative will have a lasting positive impact on our association and the community as a whole.

Hockey is experiencing significant growth in our region, with increasing numbers of children eager to participate in the sport. This surge in interest underscores the need for enhanced facilities that can accommodate more players and diverse programs. By investing in a roofed outdoor rink, we can not only nurture the talent of our current athletes but also inspire new generations to take up the sport, fostering a vibrant hockey community in Collingwood.

We are excited about the potential benefits and to make Collingwood an even better place for our families and athletes. Thank you for considering our letter of support for this important project. We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes it will bring.

Sincerely,

Dave Epp
