Letter from President
Hello CMHA members,
Since our announcement toward a Review of “A” Hockey for
Collingwood, I understand there has been a lack of information surrounding this
topic. I apologize for this and am endeavouring
to provide the most accurate information as we currently gain it.
As the OMHA notified associations of their provincial
re-categorization, the CMHA was left with a limited deadline and option to
appeal for review as an A centre. We did
so and received full support from OMHA to transition to the next level. The OMHA has a committee designated for this
purpose and does not make these decisions without merit.
Over the last couple weeks, there has been speculation locally on what hockey may look like moving forward. The BOD and Review Committee have been working to establish answers to these questions. While the OMHA undergoes it’s own re-structuring and re-categorization, we have been liaising with them to determine the best fit for Collingwood.
Members of this BOD have spent numerous hours researching the best information for the membership. We have stayed focused on the mission statement for CMHA and what is in the best interest for the totality of kids developing in hockey, not just that of a few. I personally am thankful for the great team of volunteers who have selflessly been making decisions for the benefit of the entire organization.
Since the committee has been established, CMHA has now obtained the most accurate information to provide to membership. As mentioned, a Q&A has been completed and will be posted shortly to association website. Furthermore, a PowerPoint has been developed for the Information Session on April 6th at 7pm at Central Park. I encourage any member to attend pro or con “A” hockey and obtain the best information as we have it.
At this time, I ask membership to please stay positive and keep an open mind with the information before them. There are exciting times ahead with a fresh rebrand to the “Blues” hockey and most importantly, the Return of Hockey for our youth!
Best, Dave Epp
