International Silver Stick Tier 1 Silver Medalists
Wow...What a weekend!
The team had a strong start to the tournament with a 9-1 win over the York Devils of Pennsylvania. The second game in the round robin was against the Strathroy Jr. Rockets. The team was ready to play hard again and showed strong offense, defense and goaltending, which resulted in another strong 8-1 win. In the third game, the boys battled with class as they faced the strong Barrie Colts. Although we came up short and lost with a score of 4-1 in Barrie's favour, our team fought until the final buzzer and finished second in our pool overall which moved us into the quarter finals against the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets. The game finished with a 3-0 win over the Vets and we advanced to a spot in the semi-final game. This was the team's shot at redemption as we were up against the Barrie Colts for a second time. We knew it was going to be a battle but the boys were up for the challenge. Collingwood scored the first goal 5 minutes into the first period. The team demonstrated some of their best hockey to date; amazing goaltending and solid offensive and defensive plays. In the end, Collingwood earned another win (5-2) and moved on to the finals. Next, we would face the very strong London Bandits, who had led every game they played in the tournament. Our boys put up a great fight but couldn't seem to get anything past them and lost 4-0 in the finals. Our Collingwood team is so proud to have made it as far as they did! They earned silver medal in Tier 1 of the International Silver Stick Finals!!! As a coaching staff we are so proud of what they accomplished. They delivered on everything that was asked of them.
We would also like to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the family, friends and supporters that were there to cheer the team on....the players couldn't do it without all of you! All in all, it was a fantastic weekend of exciting hockey and fun for all. GO HAWKS GO!!!
