Major Midget Blackhawks win SilverStick
The Collingwood Legion Vets Major Midget Blackhawks won the Bob Merkley Memorial Regional Silverstick in Midland this past weekend. The team defeated a strong Orillia Terriers team in the semi-finals 5-4 in OT. In the finals the team beat the Lindsay Muskies 5-0 to capture the Silverstick.

Facing Orillia in the semi finals the team continuously battled back from deficits showing strong character. Goalie Hazen Mercer made several game changing saves at key moments to earn the win. Colin Kijowski had 2 goals and an assist, Mark DuPont added a goal, and Caleb Stephens had two goals including the game winner on rocket slapshot high glove side with 2:04 remaining in the extra frame. Stephens, named game MVP, had two assists, Ben Sly and Tate Funston each added a pair of assists, and Adam Pollard and Orion Kemp added solo helpers.
In the Championship game against the Lindsay Muskies Caleb Stephens had two early goals, the first one being 17 seconds into the first period. Spencer McIntyre scored a short handed goal and Luke Ryerse and Adam Pollard added solo markers. Defencemen Matt Gill had three assists and Darcy Witt added one on Mcintyre's short handed goal. Goalie Noah Brennen earned the shutout in the Championship game playing a solid game from start to finish. Caleb Stephens was again named the game MVP.
The Legion Vets Blackhawks now advance to the International Silverstick in Sarnia, Ontario on January 15th-18th. Check out the 'Hawks schedule as the team plays several home games in the month of December.
