Petition hit the 200 mark earlier today Jan 27, 2010....

Online Petition for Collingwood Council to address the shortage of ice.
Article in the Enterprise bulletin the mayor does not sound very receptive to our needs was wondering if there is a cheaper option
to make the plan more attractive to council
Check out "Rink on the brink" in Niagara falls it is a covered rink right near Falls
I dont know if this kind of cover is an option and i dont know cost
but could be a short term solution to keep people happy?
Parents;
Earlier this week we were informed that the "Roof Project" for the rink
at Central Park has again been taken out of the budget.
If this is finalized it will mean at least one more season of having
only one ice surface in Collingwood for our minor hockey players.
The final debate on the Leisure Services budget may happen as soon as
Monday February 25th. We all need to take action.
Please find below a rough draft of a letter intended for Collingwood
council. Please take this letter and adapt it to your comfort level and
affix your name.
Please remember we are hoping for a serious reconsideration of this, so
positive encouragement to consider the project would be most helpful.
The next step is simply to forward it to each councilor and staff member
email listed below.

Please take the time as a member of Collingwood Minor Hockey to try and
bring our long quest for another ice surface to a positive conclusion.
Feel free to pass this request on to any of your family members who may
wish to join us in making a plea to council.
Thank you for your help

Collingwood Minor Hockey
To the Mayor and Collingwood Council
As a parent and supporter of Collingwood Minor Hockey I was very pleased
two seasons ago when our organization took a proactive approach and
committed to helping raise funds to provide a second ice surface in our
community. It is something our kids have needed for a long time.
I was equally excited to hear that the capital plans for the Department
of Leisure Services called for the outdoor rink to be covered during
2010. This move alone would provide Collingwood Minor Hockey more
options for practice times, and special development programs.
I am now very disappointed to hear that at the last minute a decision
was made to once again push the project back at least one more season.
This decision will only have a negative impact on the kids and other
organizations town wide.
It is understandable that staff is working hard at presenting a budget
that will provide minimal impact on our tax bill, but eliminating
projects that are needed is not the way to go.
I fully understand that including the project in the 2010 budget will
directly impact my taxes. I cannot stress strongly enough that I
consider this a good use of my tax money and can accept that approving
the project will mean more taxes.
Please find time during your budget deliberations to fully discuss the
implications of cancelling this needed addition to our town's inventory
of recreational facilities.
Thank you for your consideration
